The word Karate and the family name Awad are inextricably linked in the minds of martial artists. Mr. Mike Awad, and his brother Mr. Tom Awad, have devoted their lives to the continuing, exclusive practice of Shuri-ryu. The east side of town is home to the Kosho School of Karate of which Mr. Mike Awad is the director and head master. Known throughout the country to Karate-ka as a very hard, strong competitor, Mr. Mike Awad has always excelled at karate and lives karate-do. His accomplishments are: Director and Master of Kosho School of Karate; Continuous Karate student for 26 years; 7th Degree Black Belt of Okinawan Shuri-ryu; Shuri-ryu Style head; Chief Instructor for the late Master Robert A. Trias; Double Bladed Axe Award Recipient USKK; National Referee-Certified 3-20-88; Trias International Society Member 6-16-77; 1974, 1976, and 1986 USKA National Champion; and 1987 Trias International Certificate of Achievement.
