Mr. Koeppel is an 8th degree blackbelt in Matsumura Seito-Shorin Ryu. While serving in the Navy, he started his Karate training in Japan in 1956 under Mr. Richard Kim. While still in Yokohama, he began training under Mr. Yashito Kauoguchi of the Shotokan style. He was transferred to Hawaii in 1958 where he studied under Master Adrian Emporado. In 1959, he returned to the United States and opened the first Karate dojo in Illinois. In 1960, Mr. Koeppel joined the USKA and was their regional director for over 20 years before starting his own organization, the USKK, United States Karate-Do Kai. Since that time, Mr. Koeppel has devoted his life to teaching and developing the Art of Karate throughout the world.
